Somebody makes their initial call to me for representation in either a divorce or a modification of existing orders. I understand that this is a very stressful time, and it is deeply personal. It is my role in that initial consultation to explore their individual goals for the process, what are they trying to achieve, and then spend some time discussing the hard and fast rules and the statutes that are affecting the outcome of their case, and explore those gray areas where legal representation really matters. And in those gray areas is where a judge will exercise their discretion, and that the outcome is not necessarily predictable. So in those areas where we really need to keep track of costs and benefits of a particular course of action, and how we can shape the legal services they're receiving here at Burch & Cracchiolo in a way that meets their needs and their financial — let's face it — limitations. Divorce can be extremely expensive, but we have ways to make it as efficient as possible, whether that's document preparation, advocacy within the mediation process, or full litigation. All of these options are available to you, and here at Burch & Cracchiolo, we're going to do our best to keep these issues in mind as we move forward.
