Published on in Star Teacher Program

(March 23, 2023…Phoenix, AZ) Burch & Cracchiolo congratulates Mr. Jason Prey of Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale on being selected as the March Star Teacher. Mountain Ridge has 2,750 students and is located at 67th Avenue and Happy Valley Road in the Deer Valley Unified School District. Jason has been teaching for 29 years and teaches environmental sciences, marine biology, anatomy and physiology. He received a check for $500 to be used for items not covered by the school budget. In addition, school principal David Vines received a check for $250 to be used for school supplies and other needs.

Jason was nominated by former student Molly Bomar:

Mr. Prey is not only a kind and thoughtful man who deeply cares for the well-being of his students, but he also is a fantastic teacher. He has helped lead me into the marine biology field, which is now the career I am interested in. I have never been in such an in-depth course where hands on learning is the primary curriculum. We have looked at and dissected sharks, squid, fish, starfish, crabs, and so many more. Mr. Prey has changed the trajectory of my life and I could not be more grateful to him.

A Valley teacher is chosen each month to receive $500 through a nominating process on the firm’s website Nominations are accepted from students, former students and parents who wish to honor and thank a teacher who has had a profound impact on their life. Many teachers spend their own money to augment the costs of classroom supplies, field trips and other non-covered costs that arise throughout the school year. B&C hopes to alleviate that burden for one deserving teacher each month. In addition, the school where the educator teaches receives a check for $250 to be used at their discretion.

Nominations are open to all teachers in K-12 who teach in Maricopa County. Winners will be notified and then presented a check at their school by a member of Burch & Cracchiolo. Photos and/or video will be taken to post on the firm website and social media. To nominate go to, click on the “Nominate a Star Teacher” button and tell us why you think your teacher deserves the B&C Star Teacher Award.
