(February 27, 2023…Phoenix, AZ) Our February Star Teacher is Monica Rodriguez of Mountain View Elementary School in Waddell in the Dysart School District. Monica has been teaching 2nd grade for 23 years. Mountain View is a preschool through 8th grade school opened in 2007 with just over 1,000 students. They focus on preparing students for STEM careers through literacy and skills of science, technology, engineering, arts and math. They also focus on problem solving teaching students critical thinking skills to solve world problems in diverse ways. Monica accepted the award along with Vice Principal Mrs. Sarter.

Her nominator is fellow teacher Brad Boucher who wrote:

Monica had the heart of a true teacher. She loves going to work every day. She goes above and beyond outside of the classroom too. She sponsors the student government for the middle schoolers, she runs an after school Lego club, a peer mentor to new teachers, and helps run her social committee. She had an open heart and loves each of her students as individuals.

Monica will be purchasing STEM resources for her students.

A Valley teacher is chosen each month to receive $500 through a nominating process on the firm’s website Nominations are accepted from students, former students and parents who wish to honor and thank a teacher who has had a profound impact on their life. Many teachers spend their own money to augment the costs of classroom supplies, field trips and other non-covered costs that arise throughout the school year. B&C hopes to alleviate that burden for one deserving teacher each month. In addition, the school where the educator teaches receives a check for $250 to be used at their discretion.

Nominations are open to all teachers in K-12 who teach in Maricopa County. Winners will be notified and then presented a check at their school by a member of Burch & Cracchiolo. Photos and/or video will be taken to post on the firm website and social media. To nominate go to, click on the “Nominate a Star Teacher” button and tell us why you think your teacher deserves the B&C Star Teacher Award.
